GETTING STARTED

Step One: Choose Your Hardware

Hardware Types

Rolling Hardware

Fully secured to the rail, the classic rolling hardware moves like a dream, then holds perfectly still when in use thanks to weight braked wheels. With Quiet Glide's unique sliding system, easily store your ladder fully upright, then pull out when in use. Perfect for single locations, and in places where you need to keep the ladder attached to the wall. For use with straight rails.

Rolling Hook

Freedom abounds with our unique rolling hook hardware.
Paired with weight brakes wheels, the ability to hook your ladder onto various rails is perfect for those who have many heights to reach in close quarters, thus removing the need for multiple ladders. When not in use, store your ladder vertically, on any rail. For use with straight rails.

Swivel Rolling

Equal parts ostentatious and practical, our ingenious swivel rolling hardware rolls around corners with ease. With tracks that come in both 90° and 135° corners you will have no trouble designing the perfect rolling ladder set up to suit your needs. This roller stays attached to the rail and is perfect for use in commercial spaces and large libraries.

Non-Rolling Hardware

When you need flexibility but not rollers, look to our classic hook. Beautifully designed to suit your needs, with high quality rubber feet to protect your ladder and floors. The unique sliding system allows you to store your ladder straight when not in use. Perfect to access lofts, attics, bunkbeds and any space where you need extra height but not extra breadth.

Double Hook

Simplicity at it's finest, our classic Double Hook offers all the high quality and timeless elegance of Quiet Glide, with the ease of a basic hook over system. Even the basics should be functional, which is why we've included a second hook to allow you to easily store your ladder away when not in use. Simply lift and reattach to the rail using the lower hook. Easy.

Step Two: Rail Lengths

Straight Rails

If you are purchasing a ladder hardware kit that attaches to a rail, you will need to determine the length you require. This is simple: all you need to do is measure the wall, or walls, that your ladder will be mounted to.

Our rails come in lengths of one metre (1.094 yards) and join together with splice kits to extend the rail. If you need to trim the rail to fit, our 100% aluminium rails are simple to cut down to the correct size.  You can order up to 10 metres of rail via our easy quote form; if you have a custom project that requires larger amounts please contact us.

Curved Rails

If you are purchasing our Swivel Roller hardware, which can move around corners, you will need to consider the size and number of corners you wish the ladder to roll around.

We offer three options of corner rail:

  1. 90 degree (right angle) corner with a 16" curve

  2. 90 degree (right angle) corner with a 30" curve

  3. 135 degree angle corner

To get an understanding of which corner rail you require, please download our installation guide.

Step Three: Choose Your Ladder

Why Purchase Hardware Only?

  • Purchasing a customized rolling ladder hardware kit with rails and wheels, without a ladder included, offers more cost-effective pricing when shipping.

  • Although we offer a gorgeous range of Quiet Glide ladders in two heights and wood species, we know that not all projects are the same.

  • Many people are after bespoke solutions, and indeed a custom ladder height may be something you require. Because of this, we provide detailed instructions on building a ladder to suit our bookcase ladder hardware kits.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can rolling ladders be locked into place?

While the ladders cannot be physically locked onto the track, the Rolling Ladder hardware does include braking wheels that use a spring to lock the wheel. This prevents the ladder from moving left or right when a user steps onto the ladder. The weight braked wheels are adjustable from 18kgs to trigger the brake. The brakes come preset at 32kgs.

How much clearance do you need for a library ladder?

To prevent contact with the ceiling or crown moulding and to allow the ladder to be stored upright, there needs to be a clearance of 178mm above the centerline of the rail. Additionally, at least 76mm of clearance is needed when the ladder is fully angled for climbing. Ensuring these clearances are met will allow the ladder to operate correctly and will also enable you to open overhead cupboards while the ladder is in use. For more information please see our Specification Sheet.

How do I choose the right sized ladder for my space?

To allow for the ladder to operate correctly, it must be 127mm taller than the centre rail height. This allows the rolling ladder hardware to be installed and operate correctly. You can view more information on installing our ladders on our Guides and Specs page.

Are Quiet Glide hardware and ladders easy to install?

Yes, our ladders are easy to install and come with detailed instructions. The Quiet Glide system has been sold to thousands of clients who vary from individuals/DIYers to Contractors and Designers. You can find our installation guides on our Guides and Specs page.
